Boys, 14 and 15, shot in Marquette Park neighborhood
A pair of gunmen opened fire on two teenage boys, seriously injuring them Wednesday night in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, authorities said.
The victims, ages 14 and 15, were wounded in the 6500 block of South California Avenue at about 9:15 p.m., according to Chicago police and fire officials.
They were standing on a sidewalk when the gunmen approached and shot the teens before fleeing on foot, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.
The 14-year-old, who was struck in the chest and hip, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, while the older teen was taken to John H. Stroger Hospital.
Both were taken in serious-to-critical condition, but their conditions had stabilized, police said.
